God the Father, a freestanding sculpture in carved, polychrome, and partially gilded wood, 18th century. An expressive Baroque representation of God the Father, with a long, flowing beard, his right hand raised in a gesture of blessing. His head is surrounded by a richly gilded, radiant halo. In his left hand, the figure holds the globe surmounted by a cross, a symbol of divine sovereignty and world order. The draperies are flowing and flowing. The careful modeling of the face and the quality of the carving attest to accomplished craftsmanship. Signs of age and use, wear and occasional losses of polychromy, restorations. Provenance: Private collection in Salzburg, Austria.
