Gilded Bronze Thai Buddha – Late Ayutthaya, Early Rattanakosin
Seated Thai Buddha in gilded bronze, from Thailand and dating from the transition between the end of the Ayutthaya period and the beginning of the Rattanakosin period, 18th–early 19th century. The figure is depicted in the bhumisparsha mudra, with the right hand calling the earth to witness, on a simple base. The oval face, slender torso, and flamed ushnisha are characteristic of Thai aesthetics.
The bronze retains traces of gold leaf and lacquer. The underside reveals the original casting core with signs of charring characteristic of a pre-industrial altar object. The surface shows wear, localized losses, patina, and ancient deposits. Height 30 cm, width 17 cm, weight 1.4 kg. Reference: SKU 654.
