Standing Burmese Buddha Made Of Teak – Konbaung Tradition, Late 19th–early 20th Century

Standing Burmese Buddha made of solid teak, from Burma (Myanmar), belonging to the Mandalay tradition and the Konbaung period, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Measuring 166 cm tall and 63 cm wide, this temple image retains traces of gilding and dark lacquer on the wood.

The figure is depicted standing, clad in a monastic robe with sculpted folds and displaying the iconographic features of Shakyamuni Buddha. The teak wood is assembled from several pieces, following the traditional construction method for large temple sculptures. Layers of black, red, and gold lacquer remain visible in places, showing wear consistent with the piece’s age and use in religious ceremonies.

The condition of the piece shows natural shrinkage cracks in the wood, losses and wear to the gilding and lacquer, as well as signs of long-term use. Dimensions: height 166 cm, width 63 cm. Weight: 27 kg. Reference: SKU 717.
