Japanese Gilded Bronze Buddha – Meiji Period, Circa 1900
Japanese temple Buddha statue in bronze, from Japan and dating from the Meiji period, circa 1900. The figure is seated in dhyana mudra, the meditation gesture, on a simple base. The bronze retains traces of fire gilding in the protected areas and a naturally developed patina.
The sculpture was cast using the traditional lost-wax method; the original casting core is still present. The surfaces show signs of age and variations in patina consistent with its age. The photographs document the modeling, the remnants of gilding, and the details of its craftsmanship. Height 56 cm, width 51 cm, weight 19.4 kg. Reference: SKU 716.
