Tibetan-himalayan Shakyamuni Buddha In Bronze – 17th–18th Century

Seated Shakyamuni Buddha made of a copper alloy, from the Tibetan-Himalayan region and dating from the 17th–18th centuries. The figure sits in meditation on a double lotus pedestal, the right hand raised in the abhaya mudra and the left hand turned upward in the lap. The face, with downcast eyes, elongated earlobes, and an ushnisha covered in curls, is finely modeled.

The robe falls from the left shoulder; its edges are chiseled with floral scrollwork, with engraved details on the cuffs, folds, and base. The figure and the base were cast separately and then assembled. Examination reveals ancient copper oxidation, mineral deposits, and organic residues from the casting core inside, consistent with traditional lost-wax casting. In good original condition with fine signs of wear, a dark patina, and historical deposits and casting irregularities. Height 56 cm, width 37 cm, weight 14.3 kg. Reference: SKU 731.
