Tibetan Green Tara In Gilded Bronze – Vajrayana Tradition, 18th Century
Tibetan Green Tara in bronze, with traces of fire-gilding, dating from the 18th century. This large sculpture belongs to the Vajrayana tradition. It depicts the bodhisattva on a lotus throne, in a posture that combines rest and readiness for action.
Her right hand is lowered in a gesture of generosity; her left hand is raised near her chest and holds a lotus stem. The crown, ornaments, and flowers framing the figure are characteristic of the iconography of Green Tara, the embodiment of active compassion.
The bronze retains reddish-brown hues, an oxidation patina, and traces of gilding in the protected areas. Engraved motifs are visible on the body and the pedestal; the base features openwork elements. The detailed photographs allow for a closer examination of these features.
