Object description :

"Mirror - Kagami With Cranes, Signed, Silver Bronze, Japan, Edo/meiji Era, 19th Century."
Mirror - Kagami in silvered bronze, with braided handle. On the reverse, the mirror is decorated with a scene with three cranes (Tsuru), whose appearance in Japan means good news. The birds are surrounded by pine trees, a sign of strength and vitality. The crane is a symbol of longevity (according to legend, it lives 1,000 years), but also of the wisdom, loyalty, knowledge and experience that it brings from its distant travels. It also symbolizes love and marital fidelity, because the species is monogamous and mates for life (crane symbols often adorn Japanese weddings).

Japan, Edo/Meiji era, 19th century. Signed.

Length 33 cm, width 23.5 cm. Very good condition, small scratches.
