The Fisherwoman, Eugène Laurent (1832–1898), France, 19th Century

Bronze sculpture depicting a fisherwoman. The figure is portrayed in a posture that is both dynamic and graceful: her right hand, raised to her forehead, shields her eyes from the sun, lending the composition a narrative quality, as if she were watching for someone in the distance. In her other hand, she holds a rope attached to a woven basket filled with seafood, which she carries over her shoulder.

Cast bronze, hand-chiseled, patinated.

In very good condition, with slight signs of wear on the patina.

Eugène Laurent (1832–1898)—French sculptor born in 1832 in Gray. Between 1861 and 1893, he exhibited his works on several occasions at shows in Paris. He is known for his works featuring classical and realistic themes. Notably, he created the monuments dedicated to Jacques Callot in Nancy and to François Boucher at Paris City Hall.
