émile Carlier (1849-1927) - Bronze Sculpture - The Spring
This bronze sculpture with a nuanced patina depicts a young woman in antique-style drapery, leaning against a rock from which a spring flows from an overturned urn. The work is signed on the terrace "E. Carlier" for Émile Joseph Carlier, a renowned French sculptor and gold medal winner at the 1889 Universal Exhibition.
The piece is distinguished by the delicacy of its chasing, particularly evident in the treatment of the braided hair and the fluid movement of the drapery. This cast is an edition by the Maison Marnyhac (1, rue de la Paix in Paris), a highly prestigious firm whose top-quality productions rivaled those of the Maison Barbedienne. It bears the circular foundry mark "Bronze Artistique Paris".
The sculpture is set on its original molded black marble base.
