"Countryside Landscape Signed Maurice Dainville - Oil On Canvas"
Oil on canvas, signed lower right M. Dainville. The composition depicts a rural landscape crossed by a small pond, bordered by trees and houses with dark roofs. The diffused light and the palette of greens, browns, and ochres convey a calm atmosphere, observed with sensitivity. The brushwork remains supple and precise, characteristic of French painting at the end of the 19th century. Maurice Louis Dainville was born in Paris in 1856 and died in 1943. He was a student of Gustave Boulanger, Jules Lefebvre, and Luc-Olivier Merson. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1880 onward and received several awards. His work consists mainly of landscapes and seascapes, where he emphasized the accuracy of light effects and the simplicity of the subjects. The execution of this canvas can be dated between 1895 and 1910, a period corresponding to the artist's maturity. The painting (oil on canvas) is presented in a modern, later gilt frame. The canvas measures 46cm x 38cm. The frame measures 55.5cm x 47.5cm. Note: a small lifting of paint in the sky is visible in one photo. No restoration.
