"The Hairdresser And His Client, Japan, Meiji Era, Late 19th Century. "
Group representing a hairdresser and his client, made of glazed and hand-painted stoneware. The former is probably creating a traditional male hairstyle, chonmage, with its characteristic bun at the back of the head. The figurines are made with exceptional realism and attention to detail. Next to the figures, we see a hairdresser's cabinet containing tools. The group has many similarities with the anthropomorphic figures kept at the Ariana Museum in Geneva, made by artists such as Goraku or Kōsen.
