Religious Cartel Clock - Louis XIV Period

A Louis XIV-era "religious" clock featuring Boulle marquetry. Red tortoiseshell and brass marquetry on the front and sides. Removable top concealing the bell and surmounted by 8 candle holders. The marquetry is in perfect condition.
This clock is equipped with a square movement that strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell, with a chaperon striking mechanism. It features a wire suspension and an unmodified period-correct meeting-wheel escapement. Weekly winding. Beautiful gilded bronze dial composed of 12 enamel cartouches with Roman numerals for the hours. Steel “parsley” hands. Signed Duchesne in Paris.
The movement has been serviced (disassembly, correction of wear-related clearances, cleaning, reassembly, oiling, and adjustment). Includes original key and balance wheel.
