Exceptional Louis XIV Boulle Marquetry Cartel Clock And Barometer
An exceptional Louis XIV style cartel clock in Boulle marquetry and red tortoiseshell. Forming a single unit, it combines a clock and barometer. The figure of Chronos, wearing a false crown, is surrounded by four flaming urns. Gilt bronze mounts adorn the cabinet, featuring ram's heads and acanthus leaves. The cabinet is in perfect condition. The marquetry has been restored and varnished. The two gilt bronze lunettes open with the included key. The clock is equipped with a square Paris movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, with a snail-driven striking mechanism. It is wound weekly. The dial is composed of 24 enamel cartouches with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals every 5 minutes, and a minute track with Arabic numerals every 5 minutes. The hands are steel "peril" style. The barometer has four enamel cartouches indicating the time. It is in working order, equipped with an aneroid movement, meaning it does not contain mercury. A label on the back door indicates a watchmaker in Madrid. The movement will be serviced before sale (disassembly, adjustment of wear, cleaning, reassembly, oiling, and regulation). It comes with its original key and balance wheel. We are available to answer any questions; please contact us by phone (+33 6 01 49 14 24) or email (remarot@gmail.com).
