Louis XIV Onion Watch And Its Period Watch Holder
Artist: Jayot à Paris
Louis XIV period onion watch and its watch holder. Beautiful Louis XIV period set, the onion watch in pomponne (mercury-gilded brass) with typical decoration of this period: quiver, foliage, palmette, a putto playing the lute sitting under a tree. Movement with escapement wheel, fusee-chain system. The solid silver cock pierced, chased and engraved decorated with two animal heads and two birds, bouquet in the center. Back plate signed Fayot in Paris. Gilded brass dial with 24 cartridges (the 45 missing) The watch holder in imitation of a cartel in Boulle marquetry, the whole enhanced with bronze in gilded varnish. Functional side lock. Revised mechanism (disassembly, correction of wear clearances, cleaning, reassembly, oiling and adjustment) knowing that despite its restoration, due to its age the precision of this type of timepiece is quite relative. The cabinet was also dismantled, cleaned, and varnished to protect it from oxidation. Key included.
