KPM Berlin Bacchante with Putto – Brussels World Exhibition 1910
Rare KPM Berlin porcelain group depicting a Bacchante with putto and wineskin, based on an 18th-century model dating from circa 1775.
Around 1910, the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin revived the historic Rococo model and reinterpreted it for contemporary taste with a striking modern colour scheme. An identical composition is documented in a contemporary photograph of the German section at the Brussels World Exhibition of 1910, where it was displayed in a showcase as part of the KPM presentation.
The Brussels exhibition appears to represent one of the earliest public presentations of this newly interpreted historic model and may possibly have been its international premiere.
