Georg Jensen – XXL Centerpiece #1302, Design Verner Panton 1988, Sterling Silver, Copenhagen 1988Design: Verner Panton · Georg Jensen Masterpieces · Silver 925 · Handmade · Iconic Piece

An XXL centerpiece in sterling silver 925, model #1302, designed by Verner Panton in 1988 and handmade by the Georg Jensen Silberschmiede in Copenhagen that same year. Panton created this piece by crumpling a sheet of aluminium foil, then smoothing it out, before asking the silversmiths to reproduce exactly that faceted form — a crumpled, taut and luminous surface that captures and redistributes light at unpredictable angles. Dimensions: 55.2 × 46 cm · height 9 cm · weight approx. 2,810 g. Georg Jensen hallmark 1988.

Part of the Georg Jensen Masterpieces series. First produced in sterling silver in 1988 and entirely handmade by the Copenhagen silversmiths, model #1302 is now also available in stainless steel — but the original handmade sterling silver version remains the definitive collector's piece, irreplaceable in quality and historical significance.

Verner Panton (Gamtofte, 1926 – Copenhagen, 1998), Danish architect and designer, is one of the most radical figures in 20th-century European design. A pioneer of Pop and futurist design in the 1960s and 1970s, he conceived entire interiors as total syntheses of new forms, colours and materials. The Vitra Design Museum devoted a major retrospective to his work in 2000. His works are held in the permanent collections of MoMA in New York and the Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen.
