Jugendstil Liqueur Glass, Rheinische Glashütten Ag, Cologne-ehrenfeld, Circa 1900-1905
Jugendstil liqueur glass - Rheinische Glashütten AG, Cologne-Ehrenfeld - circa 1900
Elegant mouth-blown liqueur glass from the production of Rheinische Glashütten-Actien-Gesellschaft, Cologne-Ehrenfeld - one of Germany's most important glassworks circa 1900, awarded gold medals at the World's Fairs in Antwerp (1885), Chicago (1893) and Paris (1900).
Mouth-blown, light-green uranium glass foot and stem, the foot adorned with a spiral rib on its upper surface. The round, flattened bowl in colorless glass with intense ruby overlay. Engraved decoration in two passes according to a ratio of five repeated motifs: stylized flower petals in relief acid etching with interior design - an ornamental motif characteristic of Ehrenfeld's Art Nouveau production circa 1900.
The glasses in this series - available as wine glasses, champagne glasses and liqueur glasses - are unanimously rare. Liqueur glasses are particularly sought-after by collectors, as they offer the same quality as the larger formats while taking up less space. Ruby red is among the most prized and striking colors in the series - the luminous contrast between the green-fluorescent uranium glass stem and the intense ruby-red bowl makes this one of the most striking pieces in known production.
