A salon cabinet in precious woods with elaborate "Eagle's Nest" (Nid d'Aigle) marquetry decoration, designed and executed by the workshops of Louis Majorelle in Nancy circa 1900. Wrought iron fittings. A piece representative of the creative peak of the Majorelle atelier, contemporary with the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 — the moment at which the Majorelle workshops achieved great success, collaborating with the Daum manufacture on lighting fixtures and developing ironwork for handles, locks, handrails and architectural elements. Louis Majorelle (1859–1926), born into a family of cabinetmakers, transformed the family workshop into one of the most successful decorative arts firms in France. His style, built on fluid and sculptural lines, allowed wood and bronze fittings to flow together in organic unity — form itself becoming decoration. Proantic

At the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889, Louis Majorelle received a silver medal for furniture; by 1900, around fifty Lorraine artists received distinctions. Majorelle was appointed Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur at the Salon of 1900. Nancy

Works by Majorelle are held in the collections of the Musée de l'École de Nancy, the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
