Artist: Georg Jensen, Harald Nielsen

Georg Jensen – Butter Knife / Caviar Knife #15, Pyramid Pattern, Silver 830 and Horn, Copenhagen circa 1930Design: Harald Nielsen 1927 · Pyramid Collection · Silver 830 · Horn Handle · Pre-war

A butter and caviar knife in silver 830 with natural horn handle, model #15, Pyramid pattern, designed by Harald Nielsen in 1927 and executed by the Georg Jensen Silberschmiede in Copenhagen circa 1930. Length 14 cm. Georg Jensen hallmark circa 1930.

The natural horn handle — a noble and warm material — represents a particularly sought-after variant of the Pyramid collection in its 1930s production: the combination of silver and horn reflects the Art Déco taste for the pairing of precious materials of contrasting origins, giving this piece a distinctive character within the series.

The Pyramid collection — designed by Harald Nielsen from 1927, with direct inspiration from the treasures of Tutankhamun's tomb discovered in 1922 — is one of the most celebrated Art Déco creations of Georg Jensen. The characteristic stepped profile and absolute geometric restraint have earned the series a permanent place in museum collections worldwide. Pieces from the collection are held at the Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen, MoMA in New York and Koldinghus in Denmark.
