Allan Scharff – Unique Bowl "Mozart 3/4 Stroke", 999 Silver, Copenhagen 2006 One of a Kind · Entirely Hand-Wrought · Fine Silver 999/1000

A unique bowl in fine silver 999/1000, cut, with a bumpy and structured surface, conceived and entirely hand-wrought by Allan Scharff in his Copenhagen workshop in 2006. Hallmarks: fineness mark 999 and maker's mark Allan Scharff. A one-of-a-kind piece.

The striated, organic surface of this bowl was inspired by the bark of an old oak tree in a Danish forest — the direct source of inspiration for this series. The form, at once sculpted and structured, invites contemplation: what lies beneath the striated surface is left to the imagination of the observer. The bowl is designed to be filled with treats — its structure evoking a small bark arm that reaches out to grasp the hand daring to reach inside.

Allan Scharff is one of the few remaining true silversmiths in Denmark who still employs the ancient techniques of the craft. Form is shaped in dialogue with the precious metal, blow by hammer blow, in the meditative state that is the essence of the silversmith's art.

Allan Scharff (born 1945) served his apprenticeship at Georg Jensen from 1963 to 1967, subsequently working as a designer for Hans Hansen and Georg Jensen over nearly two decades. He has been elected an Associate member of the prestigious Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in London — one of only 100 foreign members, a distinction shared with the Queen of Denmark. He has also served as Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Art in London and is an honorary member of the World Crafts Council. His works are held in international museum collections.
