Meissen Porcelain, “neubrandenstein”, Kaiser Wilhelm Ii, Circa 1900 Rare Cup/bowl/jat
Meissen Porcelain, “Neubrandenstein” Pattern, Kaiser Wilhelm II, circa 1900
Rare Bowl / Small Serving Dish
A finely crafted bowl made of hard-paste porcelain by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Meissen (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen), dating from around 1900. Belonging to the rare Neubrandenstein service, this piece is decorated with a hand-painted, polychrome floral bouquet surrounded by delicately rendered insects — a hallmark of Meissen’s late 19th-century naturalistic style. The rim is richly edged with gilding.
The underside bears the crossed swords mark with pommels (underglaze blue) and the imperial cipher of Kaiser Wilhelm II, signifying its association with the imperial court of Prussia and the German Empire (circa 1890–1910). Pieces from this distinguished series were produced in limited numbers, reportedly for use in the royal residences and as diplomatic presentation ware.
The Neubrandenstein pattern exemplifies the refined historicist taste of the Wilhelmine period, combining Rococo revival forms with naturalistic floral painting — an aesthetic that reflects both tradition and the technological sophistication of Meissen at the turn of the century.
An exceptionally rare surviving example, in flawless and unrestored condition. The elegant, functional form allows for both display and table use, and the piece retains its full artistic and historical integrity.
