Thomire, Large Pair Of Tazza, Early 19th Century.
Artist: Pierre-philippe Thomire
An exceptional pair of gilded, chiseled bronze “Tazza” in the Athenian style, attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire, designed with a Greco-Roman-inspired architectural composition featuring a triangular structure on a concave base and used as a centerpiece during dinners or receptions.
Circular tray with a slightly flared bowl, encircled by a wide gadrooned molding accented by a beaded frieze.
The molded lower basin is decorated with water leaves and a central floral knob forming a lamp base.
The central shaft is a fluted cylindrical column, resting on a base with stylized acanthus leaves and crowned by a finial with foliage motifs.
Three broad, openwork brackets in the shape of double volutes, depicting acanthus scrolls winding around an openwork background, embellished with leaf-shaped bases, carved rosettes, and pilaster motifs.
A triangular plinth with concave sides resting on a smooth baseboard.
The body of the plinth features an Amatie groove along which runs a continuous high-relief frieze of alternating palmettes, fleurons, and acanthus bases.
Superb original mercury gilding, with attractive matte and glossy finishes.
A Parisian piece from the early 19th century, circa 1820, attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire.
A very similar Athenian Tazza, attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire, is documented in the reference work *Vergoldete Bronzen* by Ottomeyer and Pröschel, page 312
Dimensions:
Height 42 cm,
Diameter 24 cm
