Jean-Gabriel Domergue's favorite subject is women; he defines himself as "the inventor of the pin-up," establishing the Parisian woman as an emblem and changing the perception of women.
In 1920, he introduced a new aesthetic by representing Parisian elegance and the refined taste and fashion of the time. His women are slender with long necks, depicted in bust portraits, and rendered in vibrant colors to convey a certain graceful nonchalance.
Domergue's women have a close connection to the bourgeoisie and the tastes of this elite.
