Montelupo Majolica Albarello With Renaissance Decoration, 16th Century

An important majolica albarello made in Montelupo in the 16th century, decorated with the typical Renaissance ornamental motifs of the famous Tuscan workshop. The surface is embellished with elegant stylized plant and floral motifs in blue, yellow, and green, interspersed with a space originally intended for the inscription of the pharmaceutical contents.

The vibrant polychromy, the balance of the decorative composition, and the quality of the craftsmanship make this piece a significant example of Montelupo’s High Renaissance production, which was among the most highly regarded in Europe for the creation of pharmaceutical majolica.
