Pair Of Pharmacy Pill Boxes Made Of Savona Majolica In The “tapestry” Style, 17th Century

A rare pair of Savona majolica pharmacy pill boxes, made in the 17th century and decorated in the characteristic “tapestry” style. The two containers feature a refined floral decoration in cobalt blue on a white background, with an upper band of linear motifs and a cartouche bearing hand-painted pharmaceutical inscriptions.

These small vases were used to store pills and medicinal preparations in ancient apothecaries. Seventeenth-century Savona production ranks among the most highly regarded examples of Ligurian majolica for the quality of its glazing and the elegance of its decoration.

This pair serves as a valuable example of Italian pharmacy ceramics and is ideal for collectors of antique majolica and objects related to the history of medicine.
