Pharmacy Jar Made Of Faenza Compendiary Majolica, Late 16th Century

A rare Faenza majolica pharmacy jar, made during the famous "Compendium" period at the end of the 16th century. The jar features the traditional globular shape with a spout and bears the ancient pharmaceutical inscription "Syr. Di Boragine", referring to borage syrup, a preparation used in the historical pharmacopoeia.

The decoration, executed in the typical shades of blue, yellow, and ochre on a white background, is enhanced by a painted heraldic coat of arms at the bottom. The compendium style represents one of the most elegant expressions of Italian Renaissance majolica, characterized by simple and refined painting.

The piece exhibits natural craquelure on the glaze and slight signs of aging, consistent with the artifact’s age.
