Crespina In Compendiary Majolica, Faenza, Late 16th Century
A rare Faenza majolica crespina, made during the late 16th century. The brim features a delicate decoration with a cherub rendered in the typical shades of blue, yellow, and ochre, while the wide, wavy brim is embellished with an elegant motif of swirls and small flowers.
The “Compendio” style, which originated in Faenza in the second half of the 16th century, is distinguished by the simplicity of its design, the refinement of its white background, and its limited yet harmonious color palette—characteristics that make these majolica pieces among the most sought-after of Italian Renaissance production.
