Polychrome Majolica Albarello From Trapani, Sicily, 16th Century
A rare polychrome majolica albarello made in Trapani, Sicily, in the 16th century.
With a slender, slightly tapered shape, the vase features rich painted decoration in a color palette dominated by blue, green, and yellow. The central section is embellished with a medallion framed by scroll motifs, within which two heraldic animal figures face each other. Decorative bands in shades of blue mark the neck and lower part of the piece.
Originally intended for storing medicinal preparations, the albarello represents one of the most characteristic forms of Renaissance pharmaceutical ceramics.
It is an interesting example of 16th-century Sicilian majolica production, characterized by vibrant polychromy and a strong decorative presence.
