Rare Faenza Majolica Vase With Polychrome Decoration, 16th Century
A rare polychrome majolica vase made in Faenza in the 16th century, a significant example of the great Italian ceramic tradition of the Renaissance.
Ovoid in shape, the vase features rich pictorial decoration dominated by shades of blue, yellow, and orange. The entire surface is embellished with plant motifs, scrollwork, and ornamental elements characteristic of the decorative repertoire of Renaissance majolica.
At the center is a male portrait in profile enclosed within a circular medallion, accompanied by an inscription on a cartouche. The richness of the composition, the vivid colors, and the impressive size lend the work a remarkable decorative presence.
