Majolica Jug With A Relief Depiction Of A Zaffera, Tuscany, 15th Century
A rare 15th-century Tuscan majolica carafe decorated using the famous technique of raised zaffera, one of the most representative examples of early Italian Renaissance ceramics.
The globular body is embellished with geometric and ornamental decoration created using the characteristic cobalt blue pigment applied in relief on a light background, according to a technique developed in the second half of the 15th century. The trilobed neck and elegant profile lend the object a strong formal balance, typical of Tuscan production of the period.
