Magnificent Khorjin (bag front) from Qashqai, originating in southwestern Persia.
Traditionally woven and knotted using wool-on-wool technique. The pile is quite thick, about 1 cm.
The design centers on a midnight blue field, enlivened by a dense network of large rhombuses with hooked outlines, arranged in a deliberately irregular pattern. These interlocking geometric shapes, characteristic of the Qashqai tribal style, may be associated with motifs of protection and fertility.
The field is surrounded by a wide border with an ecru background, adorned with a series of polygonal medallions containing small flowers and stylized stars. A darker outer border, divided into geometric and floral motifs, completes the design.
The color palette combines a deep indigo blue, madder red, shades of brick red and coral, a dark brown verging on black, turquoise blue, a few touches of ochre yellow, and a natural ecru white. The slight asymmetries in the design, the variations in hue, and the irregularity of the fringes fully reflect the artisanal and nomadic character of this piece
The quality of the wool is remarkable—soft, almost silky.
It has a beautiful luster.
The piece is over a century old, yet the vibrancy of the colors is striking.
