Bergama Kilim / Anatolia, 1900–1920. 297 X 150 Cm
A magnificent kilim from Bergama, Turkey.
Traditionally woven using wool on wool.
Very beautiful weave—fine and even. The piece is supple and lightweight. The wool is ultra-soft and silky, hand-spun.
Sublime plant-based dyes… a deep, dark, and intense blue—almost abyssal—against which a range of colors unfolds: orange, yellow, and purple, as well as a brick red and an emerald green, which is rare and highly sought after by collectors.
There is also a striking presence of white, which gives structure to the whole, creating a strong contrast and highlighting each color.
Here, there is no rigidity in the geometric details: the elements are freely arranged in their places, like notes on a musical score, and compose their own visual harmony.
The piece dates from the 1900s–1920s.
In very good condition.
Dimensions: 297 × 150 cm
