Connoisseurs and collectors alike will recognize and appreciate at first glance this magnificent Cuval from Malatya, located in southeastern Anatolia.
Attributed to the prestigious Sinali tribe.
Cuval bags belong to this large family of everyday objects used by the nomadic peoples of Anatolia. They were once used to store and transport grain.
As precious, authentic artifacts, their patterns made it possible to definitively identify their rightful owner and also provided information about their geographic origin.
Woven wool on wool.
On the central section, the patterns are embroidered using the Sumak technique. These two bands form the front of the bag. The plain, unpatterned bands form the back.
Deep, luminous colors derived exclusively from plant-based dyes.  It’s enough to make you swoon.
The entire handle is intact and beautifully woven.
A true marvel, a prized collector’s item. Usually, one admires this type of object in museums...
