Sofrehs are iconic objects of the culture of the nomadic peoples of Persia. Like many other types of objects, they belong to the broad category of everyday items.
Deeply rooted in the nomadic way of life, they also have a dimension linked to the rituals and symbolism of Iranian cultures.
The word “Sofreh” in Persian, or “Sofra” in Turkish, means “tablecloth.” It refers to the square piece of fabric that was laid on the ground for meals, for preparing bread dough, or for sorting grains.
Lightweight, compact, and easily foldable, it is an indispensable and multifunctional object.
Its design is consistent: a solid central field in deep hues surrounded by zigzag-patterned borders that convey dynamism and vitality.
These intertwined triangular shapes evoke protection—the “eye” against the evil eye.
Shades of burgundy, orange-ochre, indigo blue, and dark brown. Exclusively plant-based dyes with a beautiful luminosity. The contrasts are striking.
Extremely fine weave of wool on cotton.
