Brazilian Tulipwood Box, Dutch Louis XVI Period, Circa 1775–1795

A small 18th-century box, made in The Netherlands during the reign of Louis XVI, circa 1775–1795. It is made of oak veneered with Brazilian Tulipwood, with boxwood and ebony edges and bandings, and padouk details. The lid is adorned with a finely chased brass handle, featuring floral rosettes as back plates. The box retains its original brass hinges; the lock is inoperable, and its eyelet has been replaced with a period-style one. A few discreet restorations have been carried out on the veneer and edges. The box as a whole displays magnificent warm, contrasting colors, as well as a superb silky luster.
