Mahogany Decanter Box, Louis XVI/directoire Period, Dutch, Circa 1800

This early 19th C. Decanter Box was made during the Dutch Directoire period, around 1800. This brief transitional period between the Louis XVI era and the Empire spanned approximately 1795 to 1810. It is characterized in particular by its marquetry.This elegant decanter box, with its majestic design, is constructed of solid oak and veneered with mahogany and other precious woods. The top and front are adorned with mahogany veneers featuring floral motifs and very fine flamed grain. The edges and lock are made of exotic rosewood. The cabinet is also inlaid with brass, forming dots and straight and wavy patterns.On each side are the original handles, finely crafted and fitted with oval plates.Inside are the six original decanters and a serving tray.All are richly decorated with refined gold details, including bows, stars, and garlands/floral and plant motifs. On some carafes, the details show more significant signs of wear than on others. Unfortunately, the stopper on one of the carafes is stuck, and the neck is damaged. Some carafes and the serving tray have slight chips.The interior is lined with dark red fabric.The brass hinges, the lock eyelet, and the lock—whose key still works—are original.This elegant and refined liqueur cabinet boasts a magnificent deep, warm orange-brown color, contrasting high-quality materials, and a superb silky luster!
