A Gold Ring Set With A Roman Carnelian Intaglio. Two Satyrs Crowning A Trophy.

Intaglio: 11 × 15 mm
18- and 22-karat yellow gold setting
TDD FR ≈ 55–56 - Weight: 9.50 g
Intaglio: Roman art, early 1st century AD

Modern yellow gold ring set with an antique intaglio made of orange-brown carnelian. The stone is engraved with a scene of triumph: two satyrs, having finished erecting a trophy of weapons (tropaeum), are preparing to crown it. Each holds a laurel wreath in his hands, the quintessential symbol of victory. In the center stands the trophy, topped by a helmet and flanked by the two satyrs. The composition is a striking allegory of triumph, victory, and good fortune, drawn from the Dionysian world.
