A fine small-scale bronze casting based on the famous model of Rigoletto created by the Mantuan sculptor Aldo Falchi (1935–2019) for the Casa di Rigoletto in Mantua, where the monument was installed in 1978 and remains one of the city’s iconic symbols to this day. The work faithfully reproduces the artist’s sculptural vision, distilling its narrative power into a refined collector’s edition.
The figure is depicted at the climax of dramatic tension: the court jester advances with a theatrical gesture, his torso tilted and his left arm outstretched, while his ample, bell-adorned costume comes to life in a succession of deep folds that amplify the sense of movement. The facial expression, deliberately distorted and marked by a strong expressionist element, conveys the psychological conflict of Verdi’s protagonist, suspended between irony, pain, and a tragic fate.

Set in Renaissance Mantua under the Gonzaga family, the opera played a decisive role in linking the city, in the collective imagination, to the figure of the court jester, leading to the emergence of the tradition of the so-called “House of Rigoletto,” in whose garden Falchi’s monument is located.
The iconography developed by the sculptor departs from the simple theatrical depiction of the character, transforming him into a universal figure of the human condition. The two-pointed hood with bells, the extremely wide sleeves, and the jester’s costume are the traditional attributes of the medieval and Renaissance jester; however, the distorted facial features and dynamic posture allude above all to the protagonist’s inner turmoil, making him an emblem of man’s fragility in the face of fate.
The success of this monumental work led to the production of a limited number of derivative castings, intended for collectors, institutions, and admirers of Falchi’s work.
