Cubist Dogon Black Monkey Mask From The Bandiagara Escarpment
Dogon mask known as the “black monkey,” from the Bandiagara Escarpment region in Mali.
Stunning cubist and minimalist composition; similar to the one at the Chirac Museum on Quai Branly (see last photo) and documentation here => CHIRAC
Very beautiful antique patina, late 19th or early 20th century, a few chips on the back (this is the area weakened by the mounting holes), height 37 cm.
I only purchase from French collections, former expatriates, and collectors’ estates... it’s important to note that there hasn’t been anything available in Africa for quite some time. Feel free to contact me to negotiate the price—it’s part of the tradition in the antiques business, and I have no problem with that at all!
