This superb Senufo horseman—a mythological and ancestral figure ofSenufo culture—is an essential element on the Senufo shaman’s altar. This explains the thick sacrificial patina covering it, composed of chicken blood, beer, and millet flour.
Note the somewhat abstract and very avant-garde composition: the horse, with its symmetrical front and back, complements the angular and slender forms of the horseman; it is this type of object, with its very daring composition, that astonished artists at the beginning of the last century. 
Very good condition, height 45 cm on a pedestal.
