Dioula Mask, Master Blacksmith's Aluminum, Senoufo Style, Ivory Coast
Rare sand-cast blacksmith's effigy mask, highly detailed and finely sculpted. These masks, displayed in shopfronts, served to demonstrate the blacksmith's skill. The Dioula people of Ivory Coast are itinerant traders of West Africa, offering goods to friendly tribes; this is a Senufo mask. A very rare object, I had never seen one before, 35 cm high.
