Large Bamoun Shaman Statue Cameroon
Large statue of a Bamoun shaman, richly and finely carved wood, with ochre polychromy and a black crusty patina in places. He holds a large pipe in his right hand and a bag probably containing psychotropic plants in the other hand, which gives him this totally hallucinated air, a state which allows them to communicate with the spirits in order to receive advice and predictions. Good condition, height 1m, 1st half of the last century, note wear on the right shoulder (see photo 3), former Belgian Serge Sheer collection.
