Dogon Altar, Mali: Abstract Cubist Fetish Statue
Stunning Dogon altar statue depicting the primordial couple standing on a pedestal. Thick, lumpy, and oily patina from sacrificial use, composed of beer, millet flour, ashes, chicken blood...
Artistically quite uninteresting composition, cubist with a tendency toward abstraction, as only the Dogon know how to do!
Height 37 cm, in good overall condition.
