Dogon Horseman, Tellem Altar Piece From The Bandiagara Escarpment, Mali

Stunning Dogon Tellem horseman figurine, featuring a thick, crusty sacrificial patina; a very old piece, likely from the 19th century, 46 cm tall and 50 cm with its base.  Note the appearance of the almost fossilized wood beneath the statue and the beautiful restoration featuring a forged metal clasp. The horse is a symbol of prestige, and the raised arms express honesty—I have nothing to hide!
In good overall condition.
The glare in the photos is due to the powerful lighting used to show the items as clearly as possible; the objects are darker in reality.
From a very fine collection assembled by expatriates who lived in Africa in the 1950s and 1960s and later passed down through inheritance, and while this isn’t always the case, these cultured individuals took the time to carefully select their pieces while there; they’re all superb and antique, and I have several for sale.
