Mblo Yaouré / Baoulé Portrait Masks From Ivory Coast

Large Yaouré/Baoulé portrait mask, a model quite similar to the one sold by Sotheby's => MASK although it shows more Yaouré influence in the style of the square mouth and the space between it and the nose, as well as the brass decorations... but it’s possible it comes from the same sculptor, given how similar it is!
Portrait of a revered woman whose comb or hairstyle was an important identifying feature; black-and-white bichromatic finish; extensive wear and significant signs of having been worn.  Total height 50 cm; shows wear and oxidation; comes with its custom-made base...

The glare in the photos is due to the strong lighting used to show the objects as clearly as possible.

From a very beautiful collection assembled by expatriates who lived in Africa in the 1950s and 1960s and later passed down through inheritance. It’s not always the case, but these cultured individuals took the time to carefully select their pieces while there—they are all superb, and I have several for sale.
