Dogon Hunting Hare Mask From Mali

Beautiful Dogon mask from Mali, symbolizing a hare; a mask used to prepare for the hunt.
Hard, light-colored wood, beautiful patina from use, a few chips on the back, from the early 20th century, height 36 cm not including the custom-made base.

The glare in the photos is due to the strong lighting used to show the objects as clearly as possible.
From a very fine collection assembled by expatriates who lived in Africa in the 1950s and 1960s, later passed down through inheritance; it is weathered and faded, with extensive wear and significant signs of use.  Total height 50 cm; shows wear and oxidation; not always in its original condition, but these cultured individuals took the time to carefully select their pieces on-site—they are all superb, and I have several for sale.
Feel free to contact me for more information or to negotiate—it’s part of my job, and I’m happy to do it!
