Statue Of A Koro Cup Bearer, Nigeria
A superb Koro statue from Nigeria; these statues were used to drink beer or palm wine during ritual sacrifices or funerals. It features a magnificent patina resulting from use and age, with very fine carving; the piece likely dates from the late 19th or very early 20th century. Height: 44 and 53 cm with the beautiful black wooden gallery base.
They are rarely this old and beautiful—which, incidentally, often go hand in hand.
