"Senufo Pulley Stirrup, Republic Of Ivory Coast, Early 20th Century"
Loom pulley stirrup, carved on the top of a hornbill head with a plunging spun beak. The ovoid head is stylized and humanized, delineated by a finely striated notched pattern, suggesting the texture of the plumage or a symbolic headdress. The almond-shaped eyes, slightly raised, accentuate the intensity of the gaze. The upper part of the stirrup is decorated with linear geometric patterns, carved both on the front and back, reinforcing the graphic balance of the whole. Hardwood, old brown patina, beautiful signs of use on the internal walls of the stirrup. Cotton cord (posterior). Accompanied by its original spool. (see photos) Senufo, Republic of Ivory Coast, early 20th century Dimensions: 14.7 × 10 cm Used in traditional weaving, this pulley is one of the functional objects carefully sculpted by Senufo artisans, where the beauty of the pattern interacts with technical efficiency.
