Stunning Fang statue, the "byeri," a reliquary guardian, made of mahogany, 64 cm tall and 68 cm with the base, in good overall condition.
From my personal collection; I really love the Art Deco style of this statue. Note the minimalist composition made up of large geometric shapes, except for the teeth, which are very finely carved to emphasize their importance.
A superb piece of modern art.
Probably from around 1940–50. Beautiful lustrous patina; thesestatues could have been regularly coated with palm oil and polished!
