Okak Fang Gabon Byeri Reliquary Guardian Statue
Fang statue, probably from the Okak region of Medouneu, Gabon, the same model as the famous one featured on the cover of the book *Fang* (last photo). From a Parisian collection, passed down through inheritance. Height 64 and 69 cm with its blackened wooden base.
Good overall condition, with a hole in the headdress on the right side (see photo).
Very beautiful and substantial patina from use.
Note the beautiful copper stud decoration, and very rare: the buttocks have a notch to allow the figure to sit on the reliquary basket; this is not the more common type with a stake.
Note that I have to use powerful lighting to get good definition in the photos; reflections and glare on the images do not exist under normal conditions.
